Steve James has been busy with new guitar, a new band with a new live album, a movie soundtrack, a buncha gigs…and more to come. Read on!
After a January appearance on Austin City Limits Live, Steve was in California at the NAMM show with National Resophonic. His signatre guitar, the Reso-Rocket WB, is now on National's short list of most popular models. You can see and hear these guitars right here; also have a look at Steve's current inventory of new National instruments.
In February, Steve and his old friend Pipp Gillette debuted their bluesy new duo. THE CAMP STREETERS, featuring Steve on electric guitars and vocals and Pipp on drums and vocals, wasted no time recording a live set at their home base, Pipp's rustic Camp Street Cafe in Crockett, Texas (the one with the Lightning Hopkins statue across the street!), and their brand of Texas juke joint music is now available on a new CD….The Camp Streeters Live. Find out more here.
After Spring tour dates on both coasts and appearances with The Camp Streeters, Del Rey and blues mandolin maven Rich Del Grosso at the Kerrville Folk Festival, SJ was on hand in Dallas' Oak Cliff Film Festival for the initial screening of Carolyn MacArtney's "Wanda The Wonderful", an evocative docu-drama about the vaudeville sharpshooting glamour girl (and Carolyn's grandmother!) Wanda Savage; a film for which Steve composed, arranged and performed most of the soundtrack music.
Also on the Steve James calendar for 2014 are the Centrum Blues Week in Port Townsend, Washington, a six week tour of Europe that will take him from Finland to Wales (and points between) and more Texas shows.
